Why do we check your urine?By Tokunbo Benson CNL Urgent care
We will always request a urine sample for testing at every contact (inpatient or outpatient). The test is easy to do and can aid in diagnosing bladder and kidney infections, diabetes, dehydration and preeclampsia by checking for high levels of sugars, proteins, ketones and bacteria in the urine. You will usually be asked to give a sample at each visits in a clean jar. Please ask your nurse for more information.

GBS is a type of bacteria often found in healthy women’s vagina, rectum or bladder. It is not spread through sexual contact but it can be dangerous during childbirth because it can infect the newborn. Although, you may show no symptoms, because of the danger it poses to the baby, screening is routinely carried out in Sidra Hospital between 35 and 37 weeks’ gestation. If your test is positive you will be offered antibiotic to treat this during labor or if your membranes rupture. It is aso sometimes treated if the bacteria is found in your urine
